Community rallies around family in search for missing dog Polly

A search involving community members, drones and sniffer dogs has been launched in Rutland after a family's beloved pet went missing last month.

Rachel Hanlon said Polly, her 10 year-old Norfolk Terrier cross Jack Russell Terrier, had gone missing from the Braunston-in-Rutland area on October 29.

Rachel, her partner Pete Harnett and the couple's twin boys, Harry and Hector, seven, have been desperately searching for Polly ever since.

"The amount of help we have received has just been amazing though," said Rachel.

"We've had up to 40 people turn up - many of them complete strangers - to help with searches, hand out leaflets and have even had people come out with sniffer dogs and others using drones to help in the search.

"It has been a horrible fortnight for the family since Polly went missing but the people have made it a little more bearable."

Rachel said Polly had been with the family since just a puppy and that it was out of character for her to go missing.

"We are obviously all upset but are trying to remain positive that she's okay," said Rachel.

Oakham resident Vanessa Maguire, a long time family friend, said she had been helping in the search from the start.

"It's incredible to see the support from the community in trying to find Polly," she said.

"People have been going out on night walks, during the day, using sniffer dogs and drones and we've had groups of 30 to 40 people out searching for her.

"Everyone wants to help and this has pulled a lot of people together."

Vanessa said they had received reports of sightings of Polly - one even in Stamford - but these had not checked out.

She appealed to anyone with information on Polly to contact the family.
