'Complete scumbags' steal bank card and cash from Tallington Farm Shop owner's van
‘Lowlife’ thieves broke into a shop owner’s van before stealing his bank card, jumper and up to £200 in cash.
Curtis Taylor, 33, said he was fuming when he saw the side window of his Ford Transit had been smashed outside the gates of Tallington Farm Shop on Friday morning (April 24).
He checked with his bank and it transpired the thieves had headed to an off-licence in Peterborough where they shelled out around £55 between 4.45am and 5am.
“They’re lowlives,” said Curtis. “Complete scumbags. I want justice now. I just hope they were caught on CCTV.”
He said his mum, Karen Dexter, had been out at the wholesalers the night before and parked the van up when she came back.
It wasn’t until the following morning as they were about to embark on another busy day that Curtis spotted the transactions on his banking app.
“I asked my mum ‘have you used my card because it’s been used at 4.40am?’,” he said. “But we were all in bed at that time. I then went to check the van and saw the smashed window.
“They left a right mess. It’s really upset and annoyed me to be honest. We’re manic at the moment trying to get deliveries out and I really didn’t need this. It’s definitely not something I wanted to be waking up to.”
Luckily one of his suppliers who runs a nearby farm has a spare Transit window that he’s offered for free.
“He even said he’d fit it for me,” said Curtis. “He’s been amazing.”
He added: “I know the people who did this aren’t local because we support each other around here. These definitely aren’t our kind of people.”
Curtis said he is hoping to be reimbursed by the bank and is waiting for the police to update him on their investigation.
A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police confirmed they were looking into the vehicle break-in.
She added: “A bank card was taken from the vehicle and used in a number of shops in Peterborough. We would ask for anyone with any information to contact us on 101, incident 56.”
