Confident Oliver from Stamford gets rumbled at UFC fight in Las Vegas
A cheeky Stamford man who has made global headlines for sneaking ringside to high-profile mixed martial arts fights and taking selfies with celebrities has found himself banned from the arena where all the major events take place.
Cheeky-chappy Oliver Regis was detained by security when he went to sit in his seat for the weigh-in of the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Jon Jones and Anthony Smith at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, last Friday.
Oliver, 33, from Stamford who was with his girlfriend Ruth, said: “I was walking up the stairs to go to my seat and the security recognised me and asked me for my ID.
“I showed it to him and he got on the mic and said ‘we’ve got him’.
“My girlfriend said ‘what’s going on?’ and the security guard said ‘you can do what you please but he’s coming with us’.”
The King’s Head pub barman was taken to a cell at the T-Mobile Arena by three security guards and three police officers issued him with a misdemeanour warning for trespassing, despite having a ticket for both the fight and weigh-in.
He was not arrested but did receive a lifetime ban from the Las Vegas arena and was warned he would be arrested should he turn up again.
Oliver, an ultra-UFC fan, has been to Las Vegas 24 times in the last 10 years, going to 27 live fights.
He’s previously blagged his way to ring-side seats and VIP Lounges to take selfies with celebrities such as Matt Damon, P Diddy and Mike Tyson at major UFC fights in Las Vegas.
He added: “I’m gutted to be honest because that’s where all the major fights are.
“I’m huge UFC and Connor McGregor fan.
“I only do the sneaking in to get closer to the action and because I enjoy meeting and having selfies with celebrities.
“It’s all a bit of harmless fun really.”
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Oliver though as he managed to grab one of his infamous selfies with Arnold Schwarzenegger whilst they were both working out at Gold’s Gym in Venice, California.
“He was working out next to me and I managed to get a selfie and he autographed a gym bag,” said Oliver.
“It was awesome to meet someone that big.”
