Reception children at Bourne Westfield Primary Academy learn about food and nutrition

Children in Reception at Bourne Westfield had a wonderful visit into school from Darren Tinkler, owner of Roots to Food.

This great experience allowed our children to be chefs for a day! They all learnt how to prepare healthy ingredients, cook then present them, followed by tasting their creations at the end of the session.

The workshop was a fun and interactive way for children to gain a better understanding of how nutritional information, coupled with cooking techniques, can be used to create a healthy and tasty dish. Children created Teriyaki Chicken. Yum yum!

EYFS lead teacher, Catherine Bull, said: “It was a fantastic day with lots of opportunities for children to be involved in all aspects of making the dish. They practised different techniques to cut the ingredients, as well as whisking, grating, stirring, mixing and chopping! The children used lots of new vocabulary and really enjoyed tasting something they had made themselves."
