Fake Rutland County Council twitter account set up

A fake account has been set up in a council's name on Twitter.

Less than 24 hours after the parody Rutland County Council's first tweet and the account has been reported.

The social media page, which was set up in the past few days, uses the same profile picture and name as the official council account. It includes an incorrect council phone number and states April Fools' Day as the owner's birthday.

The key difference - besides the follower numbers and tone of the tweets - is that its username includes an extra letter 'l' in the word council.

A spokesperson for Rutland County Council said: "We are aware of a fake account using our name on social media that has no connection with Rutland County Council.

"We have reported this account via the social media provider."
