Rutland named in The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide
Rutland has been listed as one of the top places to live in the Midlands.
The Sunday Times has released a list of eight locations in the region chosen to represent the best of Britain in its annual Best Places to Live guide.
The comprehensive guide has been released online by The Sunday Times today (Friday, March 24) and will be available in the paper on Sunday.
Judges assess factors from schools to transport, broadband speeds to culture, as well as access to green spaces and the health of the high street.
Rutland made it to one of the eight top spots.
Britain’s smallest county was described as doing 'a good job of living up to its multum in parva motto'.
The judges commented: "For seekers of sophisticated country living, it has everything.
"There are good schools and a practical location but also the pastoral landscape and Rutland Water.
"Rutland is full of unspoilt villages with dreamy country pubs, and the twin towns of Oakham and Uppingham are old-fashioned in the best possible way, with butchers, bakers, antique shops and markets, as well as Scandi cafes and smart boutiques."
Uppingham was 'number one' in the Midlands in 2020 and again in 2022 while Stamford took the top spot in 2021 and was crowned overall winner in 2013.
Helen Davies, the editor of Best Places to Live 2023, said: “When times are tough, where we live matters more than ever.
"Attractive surroundings, good neighbours and a comfortable home are the best defences when the stresses of modern life seem overwhelming."
