Coronavirus pandemic: Covid-19 mobile testing unit to operate in Rutland for several days

A mobile testing unit for Covid-19 will be operating in Rutland for several days from June 1, it has been revealed.

The exact location has not been disclosed by the local NHS to avoid people without an appointment turning up at the site.

East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) says anyone who books a test will be given full details of when and where to go.

Appointments can be made through www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested

Mobile units are only in a location for a few days, and the CCG has not said exactly how long one will be in Rutland.

The units have an integrated one-way system that allows people with an appointment to attend for either walk-in or drive through testing.

The eligibility criteria for tests have now been extended to include anyone aged over the age of five with symptoms.

Essential workers will be given priority.

More guidance can be found at www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested#who-can-be-tested

For tests to be effective, people must be symptomatic. More on the symptoms of Covid-19 can be found at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/

Coun Alan Walters (Con), Rutland County Council portfolio holder for health and social care, said: "We are pleased to support the NHS in providing a mobile testing facility in Rutland.

“Testing enables people who are exhibiting symptoms, or those who are key workers, to make the appropriate decision as to whether they need to isolate or are safe to return to work.”

“I would therefore urge anyone who is exhibiting symptoms, or is a key worker, to book and appointment to get tested.”
