NHS app will be 'covid passport' for travel abroad, government minister announces
The NHS app will be used as a covid passport for travelling abroad this summer.
With the app, people will be able to show their current vaccination and testing status.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has said the smartphone app is being upgraded to be able to do this.
He added that countries that are safe to visit without quarantine are to be announced in the next couple of weeks, with plans for a 'traffic light system' to categorise countries' safety levels.
Britons need to take a covid test before returning to the UK for countries that are not under quarantine rules.
The government will monitor vaccination numbers, infection rates, concerns over new variants and the accuracy of covid reporting in other countries when deciding a country's traffic light colour.
Under the Prime Minister’s roadmap out of lockdown, international travel without exemptions is not allowed before May 17.
