The Cornish Bakery opens in Stamford High Street
A café specialising in pasties and pastries has opened in Stamford.
The Cornish Bakery has moved into the former Jack Wills premises in High Street, opening its doors to hungry customers for the first time this morning (Monday, May 9).
Within a couple of hours staff had already welcomed a number of people into the café who were eager to try a bite of Cornwall. Last week they gave passers-by free pastries to gather feedback on what people in Stamford want from the bakery.
So far the pastries and traditional Cornish pasties have been the top-rated snacks, according to branch manager Joshua Sharp.
"We did a bit of advertising before opening and we also did the training in store so people would walk past and see," he said.
"One lady was practically drooling in the window.
"Once we were set up we invited people off the street to try it for free."
Staff at the café pride themselves on offering fresh products, with cooked food only being on the shelf for four hours.
While the Cornish pasties have to be made in Cornwall and transported to Lincolnshire, the team starts baking other goods at 6am.
Assistant manager, Sean Milton, said: "I would say to anyone, come and try the food as it speaks for itself."
If anything is left over towards the end of the day staff will take to the High Street loudly ringing a bell and shouting out any discount offers.
Instead of throwing food away, anything spare will go to food waste charities.
Josh, 28, said: "The main thing about the bakery is we are re-defining what it stands for, it's not just breads and pastries.
"With the loss of Greggs in Stamford, people miss a pasty."
He added that they try to cater for everyone with many milk alternatives as well as vegan and vegetarian produce.
Customers of The Cornish Bakery will have the option to eat-in or take-out, and the café is dog-friendly.
As well as 10 branches in Cornwall, The Cornish Bakery has several along the English south coast, and as far north as The Lake District and Dumfries in Scotland.
The Stamford branch is also on the look-out for a local charity to fundraise for throughout the year. Charities which would like to team up with the business should e-mail: stamford@thecornishbakery.com
