Delays of up to 90 minutes to Peterborough trains after man is killed

There are delays to trains between Peterborough and London King’s Cross this afternoon, Tuesday, December 21, after a man was struck by a train.

Emergency services are at the scene of the incident on the East Coast mainline, which passes through Peterborough.

The collision took place between King’s Cross and Stevenage, but all trains to and from Peterborough passing through those stations, including the Virgin Trains East Coast service, Hull Trains and Great Northern, are affected.

National Rail are reporting delays of up to 90 minutes are expect the delays to last until 7pm this evening, causing issues for rush hour commuters trying to get home.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “We were called to Potters Bar rail station on Tuesday, 22 December to a report of a person hit by a train.

“Our officers attended the incident, which was reported at 1.09pm, with colleagues from Hertfordshire Police.

“Medics from East of England Ambulance Service also attended but a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
