Grasmere Farm opens new Market Gate Deli in Market Gate serving local produce including Hambleton Bakery bread

The owner of a new deli in Market Deeping says he hopes it will breathe new life into the town centre.

The Market Gate Deli, which has been "incredibly well-received" since it opened on Saturday, November 14, is run by Grasmere Farm in the former Greetings card shop in Market Gate.

As Grasmere Farm is based only a few miles away in Deeping St James, the family are keen to offer produce sourced locally wherever possible.

Stuart Stables, owner of Grasmere Farm, said: “Situated in the same precinct as our successful butcher’s shop; Market Gate Deli is a welcome addition to the Grasmere family and in truth something we have aspired to reach before now.

“Stocking local produce where ever we can; we have been lucky enough to have several local producers approach us.”

Grasmere is offering traditionally made, ‘real’ bread from Hambleton Bakery, based in Exton in Rutland, fresh fruit and vegetables from south Lincolnshire, their own cooked meats and frozen homemade pies, pork pies, artisan cheese and olives.

Stuart added: “Hambleton Bakery, which is available in the deli, is a company from our own heart - they produce wholesome food, using ingredients from local producers.

“This is the true meaning of buying local; not only does Market Gate Deli create new jobs within our business, but it also supports other local producers and their jobs at a time when it is desperately needed.

“Whether it be Deeping Fudge, Jenny’s Jams of Lincoln, Saint’s Sinners Preserves from Pode Hole, Rapeseed Oil and Goose Fat from Munn’s of Chatteris or Hawken’s Gingerbread from Grantham - we are buying quality local produce where ever we can.”

Stuart hopes the new deli will provide a draw for people to visit the other shops in Market Deeping.

He said: “We hope to see an increased footfall to benefit everyone’s businesses and if it brings a little life back into the centre of Market Deeping that would be an incredible achievement.”

The Market Gate Deli by Grasmere Farm is open 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays. Orders can be made by calling 01778 380517.
