Developer to build Bourne footpath by end of December
A builder has confirmed that a footpath linking a new estate to a development will be built before the end of the year.
Last week, we reported that Taylor Wimpey had built homes in Musselburgh Way, Bourne, before a footpath was built.
But yesterday, South Kesteven District Council revealed in a statement that a solution had been found.
Taylor Wimpey has confirmed that the pavement along the extended section of Haydock Park Drive will be completed in the coming weeks to provide a safer route for families and individuals to connect to the rest of the Elsea Park estate and the town.
The developers will also provide a temporary link from the currently occupied houses on the new housing site to the new footway.
South Kesteven District Council’s executive manager for development and growth Paul Thomas said: “We’re pleased the work will be completed soon to ensure those wishing to walk to Elsea Park do not have to use the longer route using Raymond Mays Way.
“The builders have confirmed the pavement will be completed by December 31.
“This follows discussions by South Kesteven District Council and Taylor Wimpey to reach an amicable solution for the benefit of the community.”
District councillor Duncan Ashwell (Con) lives on Elsea Park and is a director of the Elsea Park Community Trust.
He initially raised the issue locally, having become concerned at the lack of the footpath and the possible dangers to residents.
He said: “I think this is an excellent outcome and will benefit residents of Elsea Park.
“I would like to thank officers at SKDC for their work and particularly thank Taylor Wimpey for their willingness to resolve the matter so quickly.”
The issue had previously been raised at a Bourne and Billingborough Neighbourhood Policing Panel by both Coun Ashwell and Lincolnshire county councillor Sue Woolley (Con), who was equally concerned about the situation and had been doing her best to raise it at county level.
As a result of it being raised at the policing panel, officers had adopted it as a policing priority.
Bourne Town Council has also written to both the district and county council.
