Stamford Dog Show and Family Fun Day 2019 on Stamford Meadows raises money for Stamford Methodist Church projects

Fun for all the family - including four footed members - could be found on Stamford Meadows yesterday (September 15).

Stamford Dog Show and Family Fun Day enjoyed its best ever show after 14 years of attracting pet owners.

More than 1,000 people came along to browse the stands, watch the competitions in the show ring and even take part in some of the events.

Indeed, there were some 870 separate entries into categories that included cutest puppy, waggiest tail and best sausage catcher.

And for those who like different kinds of animals there was a stand which proved very popular that included snakes, lizards and spiders which people could have a go at handling.

Roger Ing, chairman of the event's organising committee, put the success of the show down to good weather and the fact that it has grown in popularity over the years.

He said: "It was a brilliant day and we had more people come along than ever before.

"The stalls were very popular and many of the stall holders reported that they had had their best ever time at our event too."

Roger added that the show was presented by Stamford Methodist Church and would support their projects.

These included the Nixon Memorial Hospital in Sierra Leone which was devastated during civil war and was at the front line of the Ebola crisis.

The event was also supporting the creation of the new sensory garden at New College Stamford and the outreach work that the church carries out at The Shack on Stamford Recreation Ground.

In addition, the Animal Helpline Dog Rescue based in Wansford will also benefit.

Roger said: "This year we raised nearly £3,000 just from that one day.

"We start preparing in February for next year's show which will be held on the Sunday after Burghley weekend.

"Anyone who would like to get involved can do so by contacting Stamford Methodist Church."
