Julie Whitlam, widow of Dan Whitlam who died after a motorcycle accident at Little Casterton near Stamford, has donated £1,000 to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance
A widow has donated more than £1,000 to the air ambulance that tried to save her husband’s life after a motorbike accident.
Julie Whitlam raised the money in her husband Dan’s memory after his Kawasaki motorbike collided with a car on Toll Bar, Little Casterton during the morning of Sunday June 2.
She handed the cheque for the money to Vicky Evans from the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance at the Danish Invader last Thursday (July 26) along with his darts team from the pub.
Julie said: “The money was raised through the people that knew Dan.
“I raised the money for his wake and lot of people contributed so this is what has been left.
“I’d like to thank everyone who helped raise the money and I really appreciate it.
“Dan used to play darts at The Danish Invader on a Thursday because that was his favourite evening so it was fitting we could present the cheque then.
“He would have been overwhelmed with it all.
“I’d also like to thank everyone who came to the funeral.”
Mr Whitlam, 47, a keen darts player who used to represent Cambridgeshire, also loved going out on his motorbike and played in a heavy metal band called Monkey Fist.
Vicky Evans, community fundraising executive for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire Air Ambulance, said: “The family have decided that they would like to donate this money in memory of Daniel to the service so that other lives might be saved in the future.”
