Stamford and Rutland photo competition takes the theme of 'speed'

The competition subject for Stamford and Rutland Photographic Society' slatest meeting was “speed” and this resulted in a wide interpretation of the subject being entered, including motorbikes, trains, bicycles and cars.

Veronica Watson won the individual monthly competition with her image of a cyclist at speed taken using a panning technique to freeze the cyclist but blur the background.

Veronica was also successful in the group competition where her selection of images took second place and wowed members with her selection of four images demonstrating a solid technique.

Tom Carlill came second in the individual section with strong image of two motorcycle speedway bikes in action. The red jacket of the front rider and the sharpness of the image making it very eye catching. This photo was also included in his series of images for the group competition where he came first. All his images were on the same theme, accurately recording the riders’ speed and control of their machines.

Andy Hunting’s image of a red car in Cuba came in third place in the individual competition and his skilfully crafted selection of images including a horse with rider, canoeist and display aircraft resulted in third place as well in the group
competition.

A young surfer was the subject of St John Burket’s fourth placed entry, capturing the excitement of the ride on the wave.

The next Stamford and Rutland Photographic Society meeting will be on March 21, at 8pm, when we the competition will be digitally projected images with a subject of 'yellow'.
