Easter egg 'drone bunny' drops in a delivery to delighted residents in Haconby near Bourne

Good neighbour Richard Gutsell used his hobby to put a smile on to several faces on Easter Sunday.

Unable to visit family and neighbours in his home village of Haconby because of the coronavirus lockdown, he instead dropped off chocolate eggs by drone.

Using his drone - a DJI Mavic Pro II fitted with a long strap and hook to hold the packaging - he flew eggs to Josh Goodwin, 10, and his six-year-old sister Maya, as well as to pre-schooler Hector, and to his own 72-year-old father-in-law David Donovan, who has been self-isolating for the past three weeks.

While his kind actions certainly put a smile on everyone’s faces, Richard said a fair bit of preparation was involved to make sure the delivery complied with the law.

As well as holding a commercial licence for flying a drone, key worker Richard had to let the grown ups know in advance what he was planning.

“Josh and Maya were over the moon and really surprised," said their dad, Matthew Goodwin. "Haconby is a lovely village. We only have about 500 people, but everyone seems to gel together really well.”
