Easton-on-the-Hill pulls together for memorial project
Thousands of knitted poppies will adorn a village war memorial for Armistice Day.
Volunteers from Easton-on-the-Hill set out to knit 1,564 poppies - one for each day of the First World War War.
But the response from the community was so great that they have now knitted more than 3,000 which have been attached to a net ready to be installed at the war memorial ahead of November 11.
Organiser Chrissie Sherwood came up with the idea and is thrilled with the response. Pictured is the thank-you party she hosted for the knitters this week where the collection of poppies was unveiled.
Chrissie said: “Easton is a very sociable village and it seem that whatever is put on, the community will support it. Everyone is really quite excited about the remembrance events in the village. It’s so important that we never forget.”
An exhibition will take place at the village hall on November 10 and 11 telling the story of the village people during the war.
