Stamford Hospital could offer 'urgent care' at current minor injuries unit

Stamford Hospital could offer increased levels of emergency healthcare - but people need to say this is what they want.

The current Minor Injuries Unit at the hospital has been put forward to become an Urgent Treatment Centre.

This might mean it opens 12 hours a day, seven days a week. Currently the unit opens from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays with most out-of-hours emergencies going to Peterborough A&E.

Dr Kevin Hill from Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust said: "Urgent Treatment Centres are able to treat a wide range of urgent, non-life threatening illnesses and injuries, and provide some diagnostic services. This would mean that patients were able to have a consultation and be treated in a facility that is local to them.

"The potential development of an Urgent Treatment Centre at Stamford would take advantage of the existing hospital site and enable residents to access treatment for a wide range of urgent, non-life threatening illnesses and injuries.

“We want to offer better support for people closer to home so they no longer travel and queue in our specialist A&E departments in neighbouring hospitals."

People with more serious or life-threatening medical needs would still receive treatment at their nearest A&E .
