Guinness World Record attempt thwarted by wet weather at Leighfield Primary School fair in Uppingham

Wet weather may have thwarted a world record attempt but it didn't stop the pounds rolling in at Leighfield Primary School's summer fair.

Organisers had to abandon their plans to create the world's biggest human horseshoe on Saturday but the event still raised an incredible £3,500 for school funds.

Pupils, parents and visitors enjoyed a judo demonstration, dancing, singing, a barbecue and games.

Year six pupils also took part in an enterprise competition. They were given a £10 to host their own stall with the aim of raising the most money on the day.

Their ideas included henna tattoos, hair braiding, bracelets, an ice cream stall and games.

The winning stall was a game which challenged people to bounce a ball into a cup. It raised £120.

Collectively the children's stalls raised £500.

Chairman of the Friends of Leighfield, Claire Bowen, said: "We had a really good turnout despite the weather.,

"We had to cancel our outdoor activities and als the record attempt because we needed to mark out the horseshoe in chalk and record it with a drone.

"We had to improvise with some activities and the coconut shy became coconut decorating stall."

The fair was also an opportunity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Leighfield Primary School so there was a special cake to mark the occasion.

Money raised will go towards new equipment and activities for the school.

The Friends of Leighfield have recently provided new iPads and are refurbishing a room which can be used to support pupils who need mental and emotional support.

Organisers are hoping to reschedule the world record attempt.
