Kirkby Underwood summer fair supports village hall and church
A village fair attracted hundreds of people for some much-needed fun in the sun.
Kirkby Underwood’s summer fair was held for the first time since the pandemic on Saturday.
In 2019 the event was blighted by torrential rain but the weekend was blessed with glorious sunshine.
The dog show and gun dog scurry were postponed because of the heat, but everything else went ahead as planned.
Chairperson of the organising committee, Katrine Hudson, said: "I wasn't sure if there was still an appetite for summer fairs after covid, but it was really well attended and everyone had a fantastic time."
Attractions included traditional games such as mini-golf and splat the rat, a tombola, a wine raffle, craft stalls and a barbecue.
There was a flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the event was rounded off with a thank you barbecue for all the volunteers.
Proceeds are still being counted but they will be split between the village hall and church.
Katrine said: "These buildings are a real focal point for the village, with church services three times a month and monthly functions at the village hall.
"It's so important to raise funds for them because they are such vital institutions."
It is hoped the dog show and gun dog scurry will take place on Sunday, August 28.
