Family pays moving tribute to 22-year-old son who died in Colsterworth motorycycle accident

The family of a 22-year-old man who died in a motorcycle accident last month have paid tribute to him, saying he loved life.

David Thorp, of Woolsthorpe by Colsterworth, died in the accident on the A151 flyover across the A1 at Colsterworth, just before 12.30pm on Thursday, January 28.

His parents, John and Janice Thorp, said David “loved life and everything about life”.

In a tribute to their son Mr and Mrs Thorp said: “David loved his family, his girlfriend, his friends, his car, motorbike and his gadgets. He was a fiddler, and enjoyed taking things apart just to put them back together again. He was so proud of his motorbike and would show everyone that came, he even found a number plate with his and his dad’s initials on it.

“David was a greenkeeper at Stoke Rochford golf course. He was so happy in his job, and with the people that he worked with. He said that if he ever won any money, he would still want to work there.

“He touched the hearts of everybody in the community and he did not have a bad word to say about anyone. David was the sort of person to give you his last penny and would always give up his bed for his auntie Susan and uncle George to stay. He will also miss his school reunion friends as he enjoyed a trip to the pub and a game of tenpin bowling.

“He was a very lovable and fun loving guy, and was very thoughtful. He was always interested in everyone’s work, and would pick up things and always ask questions. David had a project to get two old Minis up and running in memory of his Grandad.

“He was such a wonderful lad. You don’t expect your own children to go before you but we are so blessed that we had 22 good years of him and we will cherish those memories everyday. We are so proud to call him our son.” David leaves behind sister Emma, Clare and Jane and brother Michael.

Emma said: “I’m going to miss you bro, words can’t explain how much you mean to me... I will never forget you kidda, I love you so much... separated by distance, joined by love.”

His brother Michael said he will miss all the fun times they shared together, playing on the PlayStation and watching films.

David also leaves behind his girlfriend Jodie. They would have been together for four years in March and were saving for their future. Jodie said: “I’m going to hold you in my heart forever, our whole lives were ahead of us and all the plans we made, you’ve been taken far too soon. Until we meet again I love you always.”

John and Janice have been touched by the outpouring of support from everyone who knew David and wanted to pass on their heartfelt thanks for all the cards and messages of support. The funeral will be on February 19 at Grantham Crematorium at noon. The family have asked for family flowers only but would welcome donations for Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
