Castle Bytham Midsummer Festival to return for 2022

A village event that offers live music, real ales, shopping and an abundance of food will return next weekend (June 18 and 19).

Castle Bytham Midsummer Festival starts on the Saturday with the 5km ‘Chase’ race, in which entrants are pursued by a pitchfork-waving farmer.

As they set off at 10am, those who prefer a more sedate pace can take part in a historical walk, and villagers will open their stalls for the garage sale.

At 11am the live music begins and there will be a wildlife walk, while midday marks the official start of the barbecue.

On the Sunday, from 9am to 5.30pm, there will also be a street market, family entertainment and a dog show and duck race.

Event committee member Alan Harvey said: “For more than 20 years, the Castle Bytham Midsummer Festival has been a fixture in people’s calendars in the Bytham area and is also enjoyed by many people from surrounding towns and villages.

“We are determined not to disappoint this year, the festival plans are well advanced and we are raring to go.”

Thanks to the Lottery Jubilee Fund, the event committee has bought a new beer tent in case of rain, and two dozen real ales, soft drinks and gins will be served.

Music will play from 11am until 11pm on the Saturday and a Lancaster Bomber will pass overhead at 2.36pm, while on Sunday music will play from 1pm until 5.30pm with a Hawker Hurricane flypast at 2.27pm (weather permitting).
