Colsterworth Festival of Performing Arts concludes its 25th year with a weekend of music and drama

A performance arts festival wrapped up for the 25th time with a weekend of music and drama.

The Colsterworth Festival of Performing Arts concluded this weekend with a day of musical and stage performances in the village.

After last year's festival was called off by covid, chairman and founder of the festival, Julia Kerby, said that the event was "amazing".

Starting out on Monday, February 14, the festival began with a week of dancing at Grantham College, before hosting a day of music and drama on Saturday (February 26).

About 200 children took part, and the performances included individual reading, composition, group acting and solo acting.

Julia, who founded the festival 26 years ago, said: “We’re finished now and just tidying up. It was amazing. We were so close to cancelling in October and November time because of covid and everything else and I’m so glad we didn’t.

“The number of parents who came up and said they were so grateful because the kids had had an opportunity to perform that they hadn’t had for the last two years, so it was a really good thing for us to do I think.

“Hopefully next year, it’s full steam ahead. That’s our aim."

Parts of the festival, including the school showcase and film-making elements, had to be cancelled.

Julia added: “Our music adjudicator was amazed at the standard, particularly with the kids, most of them having had Zoom lessons for so long. She said considering the difficult times we’ve had, the standard was amazing."
