Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre invites adventurer Laura Bingham to open new playground

An adventurer joined excited schoolchildren at the official opening of a new natural playground.

Laura Bingham couldn't wait to explore the new outdoor space at Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre when it opened this week.

She was joined by pupils from Ravensthorpe Primary School in Peterborough who had been involved in designing the space.

It includes stepping stones across the stream, a rope bridge and climbing ropes amongst the woodland.

Engagement manager at Sacrewell Farm, Nikki Cherry, said: "The area doesn't have set equipment which tells children what to do - it's a focus on exploration and discovery.

“There will be significant outcomes from this project but in particular the impact on children’s enjoyment, learning and wellbeing will be immense.

"It will be a fun natural space for families to get together, play, splash, climb and spend time together at the farm – something core to us as a charity to promote, inspire and encourage people to do."

The project was funded by a £50,000 grant from Augean South Ltd and £15,000 from the William Scott Abbott Trust which runs the farm's visitor centre.

Adventurer Laura, who has sailed the Atlantic Ocean and cycled across South America, was thrilled to see the attraction adding more outdoor activities for young people.

She said: "It's hugely important for children to have a safe place to enjoy nature.

"There's so many different parts of this area for children to enjoy - they could never get bored."

Laura, who is married to explorer Ed Stafford, attended the opening on Tuesday lunchtime before the play area was opened up to the public.
