Oakham mum inspires daughters wing walking challenge for the Motor Neurone Disease Association

A mum's battle with Motor Neurone Disease has inspired her daughter to take on a terrifying challenge.

Charlotte Colton will take to the skies for a wing walk to raise money for a charity which supports patients and their families.

Although she's scared of heights, Charlotte is determined to face her fears.

She said: “When mum was diagnosed I knew I wanted to do something. I can’t change mum’s life but more research might help other people in the future.

"Knowing I’m doing it for mum inspires me. Her courage and bravery will help me stay focussed."

Elaine was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year.

The incurable condition affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord which eventually weaken, stiffen and waste away.

Charlotte, a practice manager at Efficient Portfolio in Oakham, said: “My mum used to be the picture of health.

“To see her go from being so active to being unable to move around without assistance is heartbreaking for us and beyond frustrating for her.

“She tries to keep up her morale. She loves shopping and getting out to Rutland Water.”

Elaine is cared for at home by her husband Peter and attends Dove Cottage Day Hospice.

Charlotte, 34, will travel to Essex on September 21 for her wing walk.
