First-time runner aims to raise £200 for Dogs Trust by completing Burghley 7 event in Stamford

A runner is aiming to raise £200 for charity in his first ever road race, the Burghley 7 event in March.

Robin Atter, who only started running in November, is raising money for Dogs Trust and has so far clocked up more than half of his target.

Robin, who works at South Kesteven District Council, said: “I decided I needed something to keep fit and joined the South Kesteven running group on Mondays and Thursdays.

“I thought straight away when I decided to enter the Burghley 7 that I wanted to run for a charity.

“I’ve grown up around dogs all my life and I know they’re a national charity but I know a lot of people that go there and have fostered dogs from Dogs Trust in the past, so I think it’s a really worthwhile cause.”

Robin is aiming to complete the run in about an hour and sees it as a stepping stone towards participating in more running events.

Robin has said he’s set his sights on the Lincoln Half Marathon later this year.

He added: “I’ve always liked the idea of running for charity; I think it gives you an extra motivation to complete the race.”

The Burghley 7 takes place on March 8 at 9am, and runners will have until 11am to complete the seven mile road race.
