Further covid deaths recorded in South Kesteven and Rutland




Eight further covid deaths have been recorded in South Kesteven and Rutland.

Figures released by Public Health England on Friday (April 8), show that six new deaths were recorded in South Kesteven last week.

This brings the number of fatalities within 28 days of a positive covid test to 338 for the district.

The infection rate for the district remains high at 705 cases per every 100,000 people, despite a significant drop in people taking tests.

Between April 2 and Friday, 770 confirmed cases were recorded, while only about seven per cent of the district's population took a covid test.

In Rutland two further deaths were recorded last week, bringing the total throughout the pandemic to 84.

Cases also remain higher than the national average in the district, standing at 729 per every 100,000 people.

During the seven-day period 201 people tested positive for the virus bringing the total recorded to 11,356 - more than a quarter of the population.
