Oakham Medical Practice and the East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group in further talks over the future of the minor injury unit at Rutland Memorial Hospital

The long-term future of Rutland's minor injuries service remains uncertain.

Doctors from Oakham Medical Practice are still in negotiations with the East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group over the service at Rutland Memorial Hospital in Oakham.

It is currently available to anyone but concerns over a proposed new contract mean the service could be limited to only those who are registered at Oakham Medical Practice.

Despite a "positive meeting" with the CCG last week, practice manager Ian Razzell said the service is still only secure until the end of this month.

He said: "We need to stay positive but there is still a big question to be answered about the long-term future.

"The CCG's governing body needs to decide what finances are available for the service."

A joint statement from the CCG and Oakham Medical Practice said: "Following a positive meeting on Wednesday, May 8 we are pleased to confirm that daytime minor injury services will continue to be delivered from Rutland Memorial Hospital for patients and visitors in Rutland and surrounding areas.

"Further discussions will take place over the coming weeks as the CCG and practice work together to shape the future of this important service.

"We will share more information in due course to ensure local people are kept updated on progress."

The minor injuries unit opens Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm. It offers x-rays and treatment for sprains, cuts, bruises and minor burns.
