Burghley Game and Country Fair makes a welcome return

The Burghley Game and Country Fair made a welcome return over the bank holiday weekend.

Thousands of people made the most of the glorious weather and enjoyed the opportunity to be part of a big event after a year of lockdowns.

The event is hosted by Living Heritage Country Shows and usually takes place over two days, but organisers took the decision to add an extra day to allow for better social distancing between visitors.

The arena arena activities included jousting, dog racing, falconry displays and an angling demonstration.

The "world of dogs" area gave owners the chance to buy doggy treats, talk to expert handlers and watch different breeds race against each other.

The "have a go" sports area also proved to be popular, with people lining up to try their hand at rifles, archery and clay pigeon shooting.

Elsewhere, families enjoyed browsing the craft marquees, food stands, live music and display of vintage machinery.
