The National Garden Scheme has allowed hundreds of private gardens across the country to open to visitors in order to raise funds for nursing and health charities.

Since it was founded in 1927 almost £60 million has been raised for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.

George Plumptre, chief executive, said: "All National Garden Scheme gardens are very welcoming places, and we are especially keen to invite families to visit.

"Everyone can enjoy the peaceful setting, delight in their beautiful surroundings.

"There is also the great satisfaction of knowing that your entrance fee has gone to a very good cause.”

The gardens at Redhill Lodge will be open this Sunday and also on September 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 12pm until 5pm. Admission to the garden is £5 for adults and children are able to attend for free.

Tickets must be pre-booked by visiting the National Garden Scheme website .
