General Election 2019: Corby and East Northamptonshire candidates announced
The candidates standing in the Corby and East Northamptonshire have been officially announced today (Thursday, November 14).
The Conservative candidate is Tom Pursglove, who became the country’s youngest MP when first elected in 2015.
The 33-year-old grew up in Wellingborough and has campaigned against on-shore wind farms, and coming from a policing family, also took an interest in policing issues.
He has had minor government roles but after Boris Johnson became Prime Minister in July, he was appointed Assistant Government Whip.
The Labour candidate is Beth Miller, whose family has lived in Corby ‘for generations’.
Beth has played football for both the Corby Cougars and Rushden and Diamonds. Growing up she worked as a pot washer in a cafe, in a hair salon, in a warehouse and on shifts at McDonald’s.
More recently, Beth has worked in parliament for six years, on policy development and campaigns, with a focus on better regulation of the banking sector.
The Liberal Democrat candidate is county councillor Chris Stanbra.
He describes himself as “Remainer. Sixty something overweight Essex boy. Lib-Dem activist. Living in Corby- a great place”.
