Peterborough Soup Kitchen benefits from Haconby girl's camp out over 10 nights
A schoolgirl camped out in her garden for 10 nights to help the homeless.
Tabatha Brough-Darby has always been passionate about helping those less fortunate than herself.
With so many people supporting appeals for Ukraine, she was worried the homeless would be forgotten so set about raising money to help.
Having decided on a 10-day camp out at the family home in Haconby, she researched charities and settled on the Peterborough Soup Kitchen.
Tomorrow (Friday, April 22) she will visit the charity to deliver a food parcel and more than £600 in sponsorship money.
Her mum Natalie said: “Tabatha is a really caring girl. Whenever she sees someone on the streets, she’s always wanted to help.”
Tabatha, nine, had never camped before taking on the challenge.
She said: “I decided to do the camp out because it would be a bit like being homeless, although they don’t have a tent.
“The hardest part was when it was raining and someone forgot to shut the tent, but it was fun, especially staying up late.”
Tabatha was joined by her dad Craig each night. Twelve-year-old sister Tallulah spent four nights in the tent and seven-year-old Trinity joined her for two.
They had a campfire, marshmallows and hot chocolate for the final night.
Tabatha, who attends a boarding school in Suffolk, added: “I never expected to raise so much money.”
