Green light for new estate yard at former piggery at Grimsthorpe Castle estate despite concerns over 'visual impact'

The estate of Grimsthorpe Castle has successfully applied to create a new ‘estate yard’ at a former piggery.

The site is located in the open countryside 1.2km from the village of Swinstead and 2.5km from the stately home itself.

Plans include new buildings for the storage of equipment, vehicles and materials as well as workshops and a fuel store.

The only significant objection to the application came from Lincolnshire Gardens Trust which raised concerns the new yard would have a “detrimental impact on rural, unspoilt views”.

The area was a favourite spot for heritage and wildlife enthusiasts who may be put off by the “visual impact”.

However, members of South Kesteven District Council’s planning committee unanimously approved the application at a meeting on Wednesday (September 30).
