Consultation launched in Market Deeping and Deeping St James to decide on the Deepings Neighbourhood Plan

People in The Deepings are being asked for their views on a document that could shape the character of the area.

The Deepings Neighbourhood Plan lays out polices to guide the development of new homes and businesses, transport and green spaces.

The document is currently in draft form and residents of Market Deeping and Deeping St James are being asked to take a look and decide whether or not they want to accept it.

Market Deeping town councillor David Shelton is one of three councillors currently involved in Deepings First, which has created the plan.

He said: “My objective is to get the maximum number of people to vote in the referendum on the plan, and to then ensure the policies of the plan are followed by Market Deeping Town Council and Deeping St James Parish Council.”

The 160-page plan has been funded by £9,000 of Government money and £5,500 each from the town and parish councils. A paid project manager has been in place since last year.

Copies of it will be available to view and comment on for six weeks from Saturday (October 12) until November 23.

They can be accessed during opening hours at Market Deeping Town Hall, Deeping St James Institute, Deepings Library and Deepings Community Centre. Members of the steering group that have helped to put it together will also be on hand to answer questions.

There will also be a stall at market in Market Deeping on Saturday (October 12) between 9am and 2pm, and a display in Priory Church Hall in Deeping St James next Saturday (October 19) between 9am and 2pm.
