Rocking Horse Nursery in Stamford, Young Daniels and Whissendine Primary School do their bit for Comic Relief on Red Nose Day

Raising money can be a lot of fun and that proved to be the case on Red Nose Day.

Comic Relief generated more than £42m following the BBC’s televised appeal on Friday last week.

At the Rocking Horse Nursery in Stamford children played with toys and objects that were coloured red, and making monsters. Staff said the youngsters have had lots of fun and explored different materials.

Elsewhere, 38 of the Young Daniels Under 12s and 13s took part in a charity tournament at the 3G pitch at Borderville Sports Centre.

Organised by Young Daniels coach Gavin Parker, the players, many wearing odd socks for the occasion, were split into four teams.

Multi-ball, the use of hands and a special ‘Donald Trump Card’, which saw Gavin join a team while wearing a rubber mask depicting the former president’s face, were just some of the rules in-play.

Activities between matches kept everyone busy and as well as being good fun, the day raised £190.

Much of the Comic Relief money will go towards helping Ukrainian refugees following the Russian invasion, and that was something in the minds of children and staff at Whissendine Primary School.

The school decided to combine its usual Comic Relief efforts with a collection for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) for Ukraine and children could choose to wear red, or blue and yellow for the non-uniform day, with collections being split between the charities.

The Friends Association wanted to donate half of the funds from their weekly cake raffle and two children in school, along with their mums, ran stalls to help.

A total of £170 went to both Red Nose Day and the DEC. Additional fundraising lifted the DEC total to £691.
