Headteacher of Bourne Grammar School Jonathan Maddox is retiring in December 2020




The headteacher of a town’s school is leaving at the end of this year.

Jonathan Maddox will be taking early retirement from Bourne Grammar School in South Road, in December.

Mr Maddox has been head of the school since January 2005 and is only the fifth person to occupy the role since it reopened in 1920.

A statement on the school’s website, read: “The governors believe that the vacancy presents a rare opportunity for a serving headteacher, or a deputy headteacher of exceptional potential, to lead a large, successful and financially secure mixed selective school whose places are in great demand.”

The job advert says a ‘generous salary’ will be offered, depending on experience. The closing date for applications is Wednesday.

According to Government league tables which came out this month, the pupils at Bourne Grammar School make progress that is ‘well above average’ between the ages of 11 and taking GCSE exams.
