Heartless HMRC email conmen plunder £3,000 from a victim in Bourne

Cruel conmen have scammed £3,000 from a devastated man in Bourne, police said today.

The victim gave the scammers the large amount of money after receiving a fake HMRC email.

Inspector Ian Martin, of Stamford Police, said: "The victim replied to the email.

"He then spoke to them on the telephone.

"They obtained sufficient information from him to obtain £3,000 from his bank account."

Meanwhile, crooks plundered £250 worth of jumpers from Jack Wills clothes store in Stamford's High Street.

The gang struck on Sunday, said Insp Martin.

"Suspects are not known at this time and enquiries are ongoing.

"It's possibly linked to another incident of theft," said Insp Martin.

And raiders stole cosmetic items worth a total of £1,000 from Superdrug in High Street, Stamford, yesterday (Monday) in three separate thefts.

"There were three thefts in a short space of time by the same offenders, totalling about £1,000 between them all," said Insp Martin.
