White Heather Bereavement Group in Morton marks its 10th anniversary
Two women have marked a decade of helping people during one of the hardest times of their lives.
Janet Morton and Daphne Cox set up the White Heather Bereavement Support Group to give people somewhere to turn when dealing with grief.
Both widows themselves, the women wanted to provide a welcoming place for those feeling alone.
The group has just celebrated its 10th anniversary with a meal for members at the Hare and Hounds in Haconby.
Daphne said: "We are not a counselling group but do have a listening ear and obviously can and do empathise with each other.
"We have been told on a few occasions that we've been a lifeline."
The group started with eight members and currently has 32. More than 50 people have joined its activities during the past 10 years.
Daphne said: "We are a lovely, lively and friendly group who have gelled well together.
"We regularly have meals out and have been on many holidays and day trips together."
The group members range in age from 40 to 93.
One of their most recent outings was a trip to the Royal Albert Hall.
They meet fortnightly on a Tuesday from 1.30pm until 3.30pm at the New Day Baptist Church in Morton.
The group is open to anyone who feels lonely or needs company, not just those who are widowed.
It costs £1.50 a week to enjoy tea and cake. There are occasionally guest speakers, a quiz or bingo session.
The next meetings will take place on March 28, April 11 and April 25.
