Bourne Heritage Centre reopens with coronavirus safety restrictions in place

Bourne Heritage Centre has now reopened with a number of Covid-19 safety measures in place.

The centre, at a former working water mill, Baldock's Mill, in South Street, opened up again to visitors on Saturday, August 22.

A spokesman said: “We look forward to welcoming our visitors and volunteers back to the Heritage Centre.

“We have done our utmost, following the Government guidance on Covid-19 security measures, to make everyone safe without spoiling the enjoyment of your visit.”

The building has been converted and maintained as a heritage centre by Bourne Civic Society over the last 35 years.

Exhibitions cover a wide variety of topics including Charles Worth, the founder of the House of Worth in Paris, who was born in the town and went on to dress European nobility during the second half of the 19th century.

People can also learn about motor racing pioneer Raymond Mays and the ERA (English Racing Automobiles) and BRM (British Racing Motors) marquees built in the town.

Other topics include local history, including the railways around the town, the mineral water industry - Bourne water was claimed to be the purest in England - and Bourne at war.

The centre will be open initially on Saturdays only, from 2-4pm. It is hoped this will be increased in due course.

Only six visitors will be allowed into the museum at one time, and two volunteers will be present to assist if required.

A logical route around the Heritage Centre has been suggested by signs, allowing visitors to physically distance.

Visitors are also requested to sign a NHS Test and Trace form, to wear a face covering during their visit, and to use the hand sanitiser provided before entering and leaving the Heritage Centre.
