The George Hotel of Stamford inundated with ‘loyal customers’ following reopening on April 12
A historic Stamford hotel has been inundated with ‘loyal customers’ days after reopening.
While The George Hotel of Stamford has looked unusually quiet in recent months due to two lockdowns and a tier system, the team has been busy taking every step possible to ensure a safe and comfortable return.
And the extensive efforts have paid off, with hundreds of people visiting the hotel in High Street St Martin’s within the first few days of reopening.
Andrea Hoskins, of The George, said: “The hotel wants to be alive, it’s a very busy area and lovely to hear lots of laughter.
“[The other night] I left at 8.45pm and the garden room outside was still buzzing.
“It was nice and busy - not overly full - and it was really good to hear a happy sound coming from it.”
There are 50 outside tables available in the canopy and outside garden room, 20 of which can be reserved.
Sheepskin coverings are available to cover people if they get chilly and heaters target each outdoor table.
Andrea said: “I think the feedback has been incredible. People are still coming in all day with brunch in the morning, lunch from 11am until late, afternoon tea from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
“We’ve got a sensible clientèle, they don’t want to come to be rowdy.”
From May 17, people will have the option to eat inside and stay the night as rules are relaxed further. Already the demand for a night away is high.
Andrea said: “People are wanting to stay away and locals book up and stay the night rather than walking home - it’s a real compliment they are using it.”
The hospitality industry no longer has a 10pm curfew, unlike last time, with it being at the discretion of businesses to choose when to close.
The George has decided not to have a set closing time, allowing people to leisurely enjoy their evening.
Andrea said that all of their ‘loyal customers’ have adapted well to the rules in place, as they continue to wear face coverings while walking around, sanitise and order from the table.
“People have become very used to it - it’s become the new normal,” she added.
“In a way the last reopening it was summer and everyone was new to it.
“Everyone is so happy to be back, it’s a different level of excitement this time.”
