Stamford Stone Company seeks permission to build holiday cabins at a disused quarry in Clipsham
Holiday cabins could be built at the site of a disused quarry.
Stamford Stone Company is seeking planning permission to build six cabins at Big Pit Quarry off Bidwell Lane in Clipsham.
The site lies within the open countryside and is shielded from work at the active Clipsham Quarry by Big Pit Woods.
The plans include six cabins, a parking area and an honesty shop selling basic groceries.
Access to the cabins from the car park would be for pedestrians only, with visitors given hand pulled carts to transport their luggage.
Solar panels would be installed on each cabin to provide enough power for fairy lights, but there would be no other lighting on the site.
Each cabin would have a replenishable water tank, wood burning stove, gas stove, washing up area, stone cool boxes, a shower and wooden hot tub.
Guests would be able to stay for a maximum of four nights.
Neighbour John Featherstone, of Bradley Lane, Clipsham, has contacted Rutland County Council with his objections to the proposal.
He said: "Big Pits Quarry is an important area for wildlife many different species of insects, adder snakes and great crested newts.
"It is a haven for wildlife and has been for several decades. It is such a great shame to make it into a holiday site which would have a huge impact on nature."
Natural England has no objections to the scheme but Clipsham Parish Meeting has voiced concerns about the impact on wildlife and access to the site.
A decision will be made by Rutland County Council.
