Rutland widower David Allen calls on people to support the Light Up A Life Appeal at Loros hospice in Leicester
A widower is supporting a Christmas appeal run by the hospice which cared for his wife.
David Allen has treasured memories of the time her spent with his wife Rose at the Loros hospice in Leicester.
The couple spent 10 days there before Rose lost her battle with spine and kidney cancer in January 2015.
David, of Oakham, is now calling on people to support the Light Up A Life appeal which raises money for Loros and gives bereaved families the chance to remember their loved ones at Christmas.
David, 81, said: “The staff were tremendous. Without them there would be no Loros. They make the place what it is and I’ve never known anywhere like it.
“At her passing myself and my daughters were at her bedside holding her hand. It was a good as a passing could be.”
The Light Up A Life service takes place at the hospice in Leicester on Sunday, December 2 at 4.30pm. Families can sponsor a Christmas tree light in memory of a loved one and add their name to a book of remembrance.
David said: “We prepared each other for the inevitable. Every day is difficult without Rose, but at Christmas it is especially hard.
“That’s why it’s important to come together and share this special time with others in a similar position.
“We may all be strangers, but we all have something in common.”
