Deepings 3k and 10k, hosted by the Rotary Club of the Deepings, races attract hundreds of runners
Hundreds of runners hit their stride in a good cause on Sunday as they took part in annual fundraising races.
The sun came out as Rotary Club of the Deepings put on their annual fun run and 10k to raise money for projects in the local community as well as internationally.
A total of 162 entries set off from Deeping Rugby Club to tackle the 10k course around Deeping St James and the race produced a close-run finish.
Thomas Preston took the honours, crossing the line in 35min 2secs, just five seconds ahead of runner-up Dylan Tomaselli.
Josie Knight took the women’s prize with a time of 41.29, while the veterans’ prizes went to Rebecca Lee (43.51) and Simon Northcott (37.12).
Peterborough and Nene Valley AC claimed the women’s and men’s team prizes, and Gareth Williams was the first Stamford Strider home in 13th overall.
This year’s 3k fun run had a ‘right royal occasion’ fancy dress theme, with prizes for the best costumes.
A field of 58, including many families, was topped by Nat Clifford in 10min 24secs, with Lily Reindel taking the women’s prize with 12.53.
“The feedback from runners has been overwhelmingly positive with many praising the organisation and the marshalling of the event,” said race director Mary Martin.
“We really don't know yet how much money has been raised, as it is early days, but we are in profit.”
