Woodford woman arrested at Fitzwilliam Hunt's Boxing Day meet in Stilton convicted of assault
A hunt saboteur who spat in a farmer’s face has been convicted of assault.
Teresa Underwood, 46, of Church Street in Woodford, near Kettering, was arrested at the Fitzwilliam Hunt’s Boxing Day meet in Stilton after being seen spitting in the face of a farmer.
A video of the incident showed Underwood shout at passing riders: “I wonder which one might fall off and break their neck?
“I’ll p*** on their grave.”
She then lunges at the victim and is heard spitting, before being grabbed by police.
Underwood pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on January 25.
She was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £25 compensation to the victim, £145 in court costs and a £26 surcharge.
While the victim said she was ‘pleased’ that Underwood has been convicted, she added: “I do worry about the increasingly violent actions of animal-rights activists towards other rural people.”
A charge of common assault was withdrawn.
