Stamford pensioners need more volunteers to run popular services at Christ Church
New volunteers are needed to help run lifeline services for elderly and vulnerable people.
Christ Church in Stamford runs a successful day centre and community transport scheme but needs more help to meet the growing demand.
For some people it can be the only social contact they get with other people during the week.
Day centre coordinator Carole Rawlinson said: "It's lovely to know you are making a difference to someone's life.
"Knowing the people who come here are usually lonely, it's great that we provide somewhere safe for them to come and be themselves."
The sessions run every Wednesdays during term time and cost £12 which includes transport, refreshments, lunch and activities.
Carole has a team of volunteers but would benefit from recruiting extra cooks to help prepare meals.
Anyone who can help with afternoon activities is also welcome.
Last week staff from the Yorkshire Building Society helped out and children from Bluecoat Primary School sometimes visit.
The community transport scheme has 20 volunteers but more are needed to meet the demands of its 650 members.
Church administrator Lisa Garwood said: "The purpose is to provide affordable transport for people who can't use public transport.
"Essential medical appointments take priority but we can also take people shopping or to the hairdresser."
Volunteers must undergo an interview and Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) before they can join, but once accepted they can choose how much time to dedicate to the service.
Drivers use their own cars but expenses are paid by the church.
The users pay an annual membership fee and then a reduced cost per journey.
A typical return journey within Stamford will cost £5 and a trip to Peterborough City Hospital will cost £22.
It is cheaper than a taxi and the drivers will wait during the appointment and offer help if needed.
Mini bus drivers are also in short supply.
Rotary club members currently drive the minibus but more help is needed to transport people to the Evergreen Care Trust lunch club at Morrisons on Tuesdays, the day centre on Wednesdays and market trips on Fridays.
