Bourne Academy schoolboy Jack Osborne's family warns other children against playing on derelict building sites
The family of a schoolboy who fell 25ft through a barn roof have warned other children about the perils of playing in derelict buildings.
Jack Osborne, 14, remains in an induced coma at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham after the accident near Harvey Close in Bourne on Tuesday, June 9.
He is said to be making slow but steady progress and has now been moved from the intensive care unit to a regular ward.
But his family say they know the brain injuries he suffered will leave him with disabilities for the rest of his life.
His uncle, Nick Thompson, said: “Our message to children out there is to pay attention and not take unnecessary risks. They shouldn’t be climbing on these derelict roofs because accidents can happen at any time.
“Jack was with friends playing a game of ‘manhunt’, which is like hide-and-seek. He is such a smart boy and we don’t know why he did it; it’s just one of those things. It was a complete freak and tragic accident.”
A Go Fund Me page aimed at raising money for Jack’s ongoing rehabilitation has now reached more than £2,800.
The family has thanked NHS staff and Bourne community for their love and support, as well as Chelsea FC stars who have sent Jack video messages wishing him a speedy recovery.
