Market Deeping man sets up Travelling the Groove Records
For most people securing your dream childhood job is rare.
But former travel professional James Nickerson has made his goal a reality by creating his own business, Travelling the Groove Records.
After being made redundant during the coronavirus pandemic, James spotted a gap in the music industry market following the closure of many high-street record stores.
To help combat the issue, he hopes to use Travelling the Groove to address the demand with a more approachable business model.
James said: “There is this myth that people need to be music specialists to appreciate vinyl.
“It is holding music lovers, young and old, back from appreciating the beauty of owning a physical product.
“I want my online music shop to be a place where people can ask questions and find their own appreciation for vinyl.”
The business was launched online on September 1 and James hopes to open a store in the future.
“It’s difficult at the moment because to me with vinyl records you come in to spend time flicking through the records and chat to other buyers - it’s sociable.
“With everything going on with the pandemic you can’t have that experience and a lot of stores around the country are trying hard but it’s difficult,” he said.
James, from Market Deeping, is committed to embracing the highs and lows which launching a business in the middle of a global pandemic brings.
The father-of-two said: “Mostly there is a sense of gratefulness for being able to embrace a riskier, but more rewarding career path.
“If it were not for the pandemic, employment would have been a path I would not have considered to question.”
