Jodie Whitehead from Manthorpe who is vying to be crowned Miss East Midlands raises £300 for Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group

A pastry chef at an elite London hotel vying to be crowned Miss East Midlands, has raised £300 for a children’s cancer charity through a car boot sale.

Jodie Whitehead, 19, from Manthorpe, and a pastry chef at The Ritz in London, organised the sale at Essendine Village Hall on Saturday (May 11), in aid of Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group.

Alison, Jodie’s mum, said: “It was a good day and the weather was also nice.

“We had nine cars, we had a tombola and we had food on offer as well.

“We’ve raised just over £300 which is good for a little car boot in the village.

“We’d just like to thank everybody for their kind donations and also Adele for allowing us to use Essendine Village Hall.”

Jodie, a former New College Stamford student, is vying to be crowned Miss East Midlands in a ceremony at Leicester Tiger’s Welford Road Stadium on May 31 and the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group is the designated charity.

Jodie is aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity.

The winners will go through to the Miss England finals.
