Bourne children from the 1st Elsea Park Cubs celebrated VE Day with a virtual camp where all mention of coronavirus was banned
A cub back celebrated VE Day and broke up the monotony of lockdown with a virtual camp at home.
Eighteen children from the 1st Elsea Park Cubs camped out at the weekend and enjoyed a series of wartime challenges.
The youngsters set up and decorated their sleeping spaces before coming together on Zoom to find out what activities were in store.
They completed a rations bake off, VE Day crafts and a treasure hunt before setting off around Bourne to complete an orienteering course using the What Three Words app.
Pack leader Becky Brown said: “The way Scouting is delivered has completely changed during this period of lockdown but it’s amazing what can be done over zoom.
"After eight weeks at home, children are getting bored so I wanted to do something fun that they could get excited about.
"One of the cubs said it was the most amazing weekend ever because they didn't hear anyone say the words Covid-19.
"I really wanted to make them feel part of something again and remember that there is more to life than coronavirus.
"It was lovely to see them smile."
The virtual camp was set up to be as close to a real camp as possible, with a ceremony to raise the flag and a renewal of the scout promise.
Becky added: "With all of our camps and activities cancelled, it was great to see them get excited and continue to be involved in scouting even if it’s from a distance."
