Listen to the charity single released in memory of Sonny Ferry in aid of The Sunshine Campaign

A poignant ballad which was performed at a teenager’s funeral has been recorded to raise money for charity.

Rutland musicians Chris Poole and Harriet Bryan released a version of You Are Our Sunshine on Monday in aid of The Sunshine Campaign.

The fund was set up in memory of Ketton teenager Sonny Ferry who drowned in a river in York during a night out with workmates.

His family set out to raise £45,000 to buy a new lifeboat for the city but have since expanded their ambition to pay for more safety measures around the water.

Oakham guitarist Chris Poole and Uppingham singer Hannah Bryant were approached by friends to support the campaign.

They recorded the track at The Railway Inn in Oakham.

Chris, 28, said: “I didn’t know Sonny that well but wanted to help as much as I could.

“The single has reached number 15 in the Singer/Songwriter Chart on iTunes which is great.”

Hannah, 31, added: “The family have suffered a horrific loss and if there was something I could do to bring something positive from that, I was more than happy to do it.”

The track is available to buy on all online platforms.
